What protective clothing is available for riding?

Riding involves certain risks. It does not matter whether it is a young horse or an experienced rider, or whether you are mounting the horse for the first time or have been riding it for many years. Equestrian sports require high-quality and reliable protective clothing that prevents injuries.
Protective clothing for riding primarily includes breeches with knee-patches or full seat. These protect the rider's leg from chafing on the inside of the thighs. Do not ride in shorts, even in high temperatures! The leather can burn bare skin and it can get caught between the saddle flap and stirrup leathers, which is extremely painful.
Sturdy footwear is required to give you a secure footing and grip in the stirrups. For riding in classical saddles, long riding boots or Jodphur boots with half-chaps or gaiters are suitable. But sturdy riding boots worn under Jodhpur breeches also make suitable footwear for riding.
When choosing the right outerwear for riding, you should make sure that the clothing fits close to your body without constricting you. You should also keep zips closed at all times and tuck scarves well under your jacket so that you don't get caught on the saddle in the event of a fall.
Likewise, well-fitting riding gloves with rein reinforcement are an important part of a rider's protective clothing so that you don't get uncomfortable blisters between your fingers. Good riding gloves should still allow for sensitivity in the fingers.

What protective equipment is available for riding?

Protective equipment for riding includes:

From the very first riding lesson, a riding hat is an absolute must! Bicycle helmets are not sufficient for riding, as the helmet shapes are specially designed for the specific types of falls. While you tend to fall forwards when falling from a bike, you tend to fall on the side or the back of the head when falling from a horse. Due to the aerodynamic design of a bicycle helmet, the back of the head is not sufficiently protected. Our wide range of riding hats and children's riding hats are designed to fit every head size and personal preference. You can find out which points to look out for when buying a riding hat in our detailed guide to riding hats.
We also have riding hat accessories in our range, such as hat bags or cleaning foam for riding hats, so that your protective equipment can be cared for and stored safely. In the event of a fall, the spine in particular, but also the rider's internal organs, require special protection. In our range you will find back protectors that stabilise the spine and body protectors that cover the entire upper body. The integrated, movable panel elements not only provide you with comprehensive protection, but also with optimal freedom of movement. You can find more detailed information about buying a suitable body protector or a good back protector in our body protector guide.

What protective equipment is prescribed for eventing?

Eventing is a very daring discipline that entails high risks, especially in the cross-country competition over fixed obstacles. Therefore, in addition to a riding hat, wearing a body protector is obligatory. Our riding hats and body protectors are continuously developed and tested so that they always meet the latest standards.
