As a rider, the stable quickly becomes a second home. The horse has to be cared for and moved regardless of the weather. Accordingly, choosing the right riding jacket is a great challenge for many riders. The intended use is also a decisive factor in the choice. Depending on whether it is a pure training jacket, a rain jacket or a between-seasons jacket, different factors have to be considered.

With our guide, we would like to support you on your way to finding the right riding jacket, so that you are optimally equipped for every area of use.

The appropriate riding jacket

With our guide we support you in choosing a suitable riding jacket or coat.

Choosing the right riding jacket starts with a look at the outside temperature. From 10°C onwards, the weather is perceived as cool. However, there is usually a difference between the perceived and the actual outside temperature. This phenomenon is called the wind chill factor, because cold temperatures are perceived more intensely when there is a strong wind. The wind chill factor is defined in values from temperatures below the 10°C limit.

The following table shows the temperature differences depending on the wind speed.

Wind speed Air temperature
0 km/h 10°C 5°C 0°C -5°C
5 km/h 9,8 4,1 -1,6 -7,3
10 km/h 8,6 2,7 -3,3 -9,3
15 km/h 7,9 1,7 -4,4 -10,6
20 km/h 7,4 1,1 -5,2 -11,6
25 km/h 6,9 0,5 -5,9 -12,3
30 km/h 6,6 0,1 -6,5 -13
40 km/h 6 -0,7 -7,4 -14,1
50 km/h 5,5 -1,3 -8,1 -15
60 km/h 5,1 -1,8 -8,8 -15,7

The correct fit of the riding jacket

Riding jackets and coats come in different colours and styles.

In addition to the classic fitted jacket cut, you will also find riding blousons in our range. These are shorter in comparison and their cut is similar to flight or bomber jackets. Cuffs on the sleeves and at the end of the jacket form a windbreak, which makes them fit tightly. A parka, on the other hand, can be interpreted as a longer-cut jacket with a drawstring at the waist. Parkas were used for a long time in Alaska and Siberia until they became established as clothing in the military in the 1940s due to their function. Today, the parka has become a fashionable garment alongside the classic coat and is therefore also used in the stable.

The riding coat is particularly attractive for stable work. Due to its length and body-hugging construction, the coat keeps the rider warm even in icy temperatures and continues to protect with its functional material properties such as wind or waterproofness.

The size of the riding jacket also plays a significant role. In order to fulfill all functions, the riding jacket must fit properly. Accordingly, choosing the right size is crucial.

If a riding jacket is too big, it cannot withstand the wind chill effect. If a riding jacket is too small, the warmth cannot be maintained.

Comfort of the riding jacket

The comfort is created by various details of the riding jacket.

Riding vents in particular provide more freedom of movement, especially in the leg area, for a high level of comfort when riding.

A two-way zip also allows freedom of movement and wearing comfort – both on the horse and on the ground.

High collars with soft fleece lining are especially comfortable to wear in cold temperatures, while stretch inserts in the jackets ensure freedom of movement, breathability and comfort in warmer temperatures above 15°C.

Just as important as function – the appearance

In addition to a high level of functionality, our riding jackets and coats also have many fashionable details. With diamond stitching, faux fur hoods or embroidery, our riding jackets and coats are an absolute eye-catcher. They can be perfectly combined with matching jodhpurs, tops or other accessories. This creates a practical and at the same time trendy outfit for the time in the stable.

Your safety is also very important to us. Reflective patterns, piping or lettering on the riding outerwear ensure ideal visibility at dusk and in the dark. The functionalities make the jackets and coats suitable for wearing while riding and working in the stable as well as for everyday wear.
