Which food bowl is best for dogs?
A dog wants to enjoy its feed in peace. It must feel secure and should not have to chase after its feed. Therefore, a food bowl that stays in place is important.
A food bowl that matches the size of the dog is best suited. It should not be too small because firstly, the full portion would not fit inside and secondly, the dog might spill the food or water onto the floor. Small dogs might not be able to reach all areas in a bowl that is too large without having to walk around it, which could disturb their peace while eating.
Furthermore, the dog bowl should have a non-slip base. If the dog particularly enjoys its food, it will thoroughly lick out every last bit. If the food bowl is too light or has a smooth underside, it will slide around. Therefore, when purchasing a suitable food bowl, ensure that it is ideally made of porcelain and equipped with non-slip silicone or rubber on the base. Plastic bowls are less suitable for feeding dogs due to their lightweight nature. At Kramer Equestrian, you can purchase ceramic feeding bowls from sugar dog, which allow your dog to eat calmly. The high-quality ceramic ensures that the dog can easily lick up any food remnants and the bowl can be cleaned effortlessly. For even better stability or to keep the floor clean, you can additionally purchase a silicone dog bowl mat from sugar dog.

How large should the dog bowl be?
The size of a dog bowl should be based on the amount of feed the dog receives per meal. Therefore, the size of the food bowl is indirectly determined by the size of the dog.
As a guideline, one can say that the bowl should have approximately four times the volume of the meal it is intended to hold. This prevents feed from being scattered around the bowl on the floor.
Furthermore, the question arises as to how deep the dog bowl should be. The volume of the dog bowl can extend both in width and depth. Dogs with long snouts prefer deeper bowls, while dogs with broad, flat snouts favour eating from a shallower dog bowl. Small dogs with short legs tend to prefer feed bowls with a shallow rim, as otherwise they cannot reach all corners.
The same guidelines apply to the water bowl; it's best to buy one of the same size as the food bowl at the same time.
How can I feed my dog while on the go?
Those days are gone when you had to lug around an extra backpack for your dog's accessories. To ensure your dog always has water during long walks or hikes, there are travel drinking bottles with an integrated bowl. This is not only extremely practical but also particularly space-saving in the backpack. The water can be dispensed into the bowl at the push of a button and returned just as easily.
If the dog needs more water because it is larger, you can take a foldable silicone dog bowl with you. These are particularly easy to clean, fold up quickly, and do not lose their elasticity even after frequent use.
At Kramer Equestrian, you can purchase useful dog accessories for feeding your dog on the go. Sugar Dog provides you with dog treat bags in various designs, allowing you to safely store not only dog treats but also clickers and other small items for training and while out and about. Foldable silicone dog bowls or travel bowls with a waterproof, smooth lining are the ideal companion for extended walks.
