How can I tie up my horse safely on the trek?

To tie up a horse safely during a horse trek, you should carry the following things with you:

Never tie the horse to the bridle or the rope halter, the risk of injury is too high!

The safest way to tie up a horse on the move is to stretch a high rope between two strong trees. However, you can also tie it to a tree or other firmly anchored objects. In any case, you should learn how to tie knots before the trek. The knots should untie themselves if there is a strong pull on the rope, so that the horse can free itself if spooked. When tying, make sure that the horse does not trip over the rope or get caught in it. For the high rope alternative, you should therefore tighten the rope as much and as high as possible.

Which bridle is suitable for horse trekking?

A good trekking bridle is tailored to your horse's needs and level of training. You should have tried out the bridle for some time to avoid pressure points and chafing. Many horse trekkers swear by a basic bridle, under which a headcollar can also be buckled, so that you can easily tie up your horse when you are on the move. Special trekking bridles make multi-functional use possible. In many cases, they can be used as a conventional headcollar for tying up, but also as a riding bridle or sidepull.

When it comes to the bit, you should not venture into unknown territory either. Use the bit that you and your horse are most comfortable with. Of course you should make sure that the bit and also the rest of the bridle are faultless and fit. Do you usually ride bitless? If you are an experienced rider, you can also ride your horse bitless in the outdoors.
