What alternatives are there for a lack of water connection in the field?

If horses spend more than two hours at a time in the field, it must be ensured that they have a sufficient water supply. Ideally, a water connection can be installed in the field so that horses can also access fresh drinking water outside via a drinker. However, a water connection is not always possible. Depending on the number of horses and the distance, there are various options for bringing a water supply out.
If you supply your own horses with water, and the distance between the field and the stable is not too far, you can bring water out manually with buckets once or twice a day.
If you need to supply water to several horses or an entire herd in remote fields, water carts with attached drinkers are a good option.
As with drinkers in stables, they should be checked regularly for contamination such as feed residues, bird droppings or algae and cleaned accordingly with a sponge.

Which fence accessories are important?

The fence is in place, but additional fence accessories may be useful beyond the basics of conductor material, posts with insulators, paddock fence energisers and batteries. In particular, a few tools are needed to check that the fence is functioning properly. For both permanent paddocks and temporary paddocks, the current flow should be checked at regular intervals. A fence tester is useful for this, as it allows you to check the voltage at different points along the conductor material and locate any interruptions in the current flow.
To ensure that a fence is escape-proof, at least three rows of fencing are required for horses. To connect them properly so that electricity flows through all rows, you can purchase fence connection cables with two or three clamps from Kramer. These are attached to the fence rows using crocodile clips. For ropes, however, you will find rope couplings in the online shop and for tapes, tape connection cables.
For fences that are powered by 230 volt power supplies, lightning protection is highly recommended. This is mounted on a fence post and connected to the power supply, fence and ground. In the event of a lightning strike, the lightning protection prevents the power supply from overloading by diverting the surge into the ground.
You can also purchase spare parts for our fence accessories, such as earth stakes, grounding cables or fence connection cables.
Finally, warning signs can warn passers-by about the electric fence, but also deter them from entering the fields and feeding the horses. You can purchase warning signs for fences from Kramer Equestrian.
