Which dog bed is suitable for large dogs?

A dog bed for large dogs should be at least 10cm wider and 3cm longer than the dog. This provides the dog with enough space to stretch out. Whether your dog prefers a large sleeping mat or a dog bed with an edge depends on your pet's individual preferences. Keep in mind that for dog beds with an edge, the above measurements should be adhered to so as not to restrict the dog when lying on its side.
Large, heavy dog breeds often suffer from joint problems. When purchasing a suitable dog bed, ensure it has adequate padding and a low entry point. This will help protect your dog's joints from a young age.

Which dog bed has memory foam?

Memory foam offers high lying comfort as the foam layers adapt to the reclining dog like no other material, yet spring back into their original shape once the dog gets up. The material is also credited with excellent shock absorption and pressure relief.
In the Kramer Equestrian online shop you'll find various dog beds and sleeping mats with memory foam, which ensure a comfortable lying position for your dog. Different sizes and heights of the sleeping mats make them suitable for dogs of varying size, breed and needs.

Can an orthopaedic dog bed be beneficial?

An orthopaedic dog bed is not just a sensible option for elderly dogs and those with arthritis. Even healthy dogs, as well as large, heavy breeds, can benefit from a dog bed with an orthopaedic core. It eases the joints and provides a high level of comfort when lying down. This allows the dog to rest sufficiently and get a good night's sleep.
At Kramer Equestrian you can buy sleeping mats with an orthopaedic core. The multi-layered foam adapts to the dog's lying position, making our sleeping mats from sugar dog particularly cosy. Your dog lies as pressure-free as possible and blood vessels are not disturbed. Integrated nodules on the underside of the foam adapt perfectly to the dog's spine. Thanks to the various sizes, they are suitable for almost all dogs.

Which dog bed suits my dog?

A retreat for sleeping and resting is of great importance for dogs, as they have a very high need for rest of approximately 20 hours. And what could be better than a cosy and snugly soft dog bed or cushion where your four-legged friend can relax and unwind? In doing so, there are various sleeping options to choose from:

  • Dog bed with edge
  • Round dog bed
  • Dog cushion
  • Sleeping mat
  • Orthopaedic dog bed
  • Dog blanket
  • Dog basket
  • Cave-like dog crate, alternatively: kennel
Which dog bed best suits your dog depends on their individual sleeping habits. Dogs who like to curl up and snuggle may prefer a round dog bed or cushion. A square dog bed, on the other hand, offers more length, making it easier for the dog to stretch out. A raise edge doesn't have to be part of every bed, but some dogs like to rest their head on it or snuggle into the corner for a greater sense of security.
Other dogs, however, prefer a simple sleeping mat that offers plenty of room to stretch out and does not retain heat excessively. A sleeping mat of the appropriate size and thickness is then an option for large dogs with thick coats, for example.
A dog blanket can serve as a resting place on the go or as additional padding in the car, and we also stock boot and back seat protectors for dogs in our range.
Particular attention should be paid to dog beds for puppies. Not only do they quickly grow out of their size, but they also like to put things into their mouths. The material of the dog bed should be hard-wearing and durable. For puppies, dog beds made of synthetic leather and polyester, as well as baskets made of hard plastic, are recommended.

How large should the dog bed be?

When choosing the right dog bed, you should consider the size and weight of your dog. The dog bed should fit the dog. When the dog stretches out and lies on its side, it shouldn't hang off to one side or be restricted. Even if the dog likes to sleep curled up, it will need to stretch its joints at some point. If the dog bed is too small, dogs will then lie next to the basket because they can't find a comfortable position in the long run. Choose a dog bed that's too big rather than too small.
The dog's weight is equally crucial to ensure that the dog bed maintains its cushioning function and does not become too firm. Sleeping mats should be at least 10cm high for medium-sized dogs of approximately 20kg; for larger dogs, at least 20cm.
