How do I care for my western outerwear?

Anyone who is familiar with the elaborately designed show shirts from Western Pleasure will be able to imagine that these often custom-made and individually designed unique pieces require a great deal of care. Therefore, the care of the everyday western outerwear for stable work and training should be all the easier.

As a rule, shirts and blouses made of synthetic material or cotton can easily be washed in the washing machine using the conventional programme.

With synthetic fibres in particular, you should just make sure not to use fabric softener, as the functional properties of the fabric could otherwise be lost. Those who prefer intensive care can also use a special detergent for sportswear.

The following applies to western riding jackets: the more functional the material, the more cautious you should be when cleaning it. Special detergents that, for example, maintain the water-repellent membrane functions of the outer material are a must in these cases, as is a gentle washing programme with a low spin rate. For after-treatment, impregnation may also be necessary in such cases. You can find out how best to care for your riding jacket in our guide on „How to properly care for riding jackets and coats“.
