What should be included in a first aid kit for the stable?

A first-aid kit is part of the basic equipment of every horse owner. Small injuries can be treated by yourself and in larger emergencies you can bridge the time until the vet arrives.
Regardless of the contents of the first-aid kit, you should always keep the following points in mind:

  • Check the expiry dates of the medicines regularly.
  • Close ointments and bottles tightly and securely after use.
  • Keep the contents safe from dirt and moisture, for example by storing medicines in sealable plastic containers.
For a complete list of dressings, medicines and other supplies, see this list.
You can read about what you should consider when compiling and storing a first-aid kit in our detailed guide on the subject. There you will also find all the necessary information on what you should do for first aid on your horse.
