Which whip is suitable for beginners?

For beginners who are still learning the relaxed seat, a riding whip can be a big challenge. Holding the reins and your whip without tensing up or dropping any of it can be difficult in the first few riding lessons.
If the beginner rider still needs a riding whip, a short, harder whip is the best choice. If the riding whip is made of sturdy material, it will not bounce uncontrollably against the horse's belly, which is due to an unsteady rider's hand. A short, stable whip provides more control and makes it easier for the novice rider to handle a riding whip.

Which whips are suitable for children?

As beginners, children need to learn how to use a riding whip. To avoid uncontrolled waving of the whip, a short, stable whip is recommended for children. In addition, a hand loop can prevent the whip from being dropped accidentally. A narrow handle is also important so that the whip is not too heavy and bulky in the child's hand.

What is the maximum length of a dressage whip?

In dressage it is important to encourage the horse's hindquarters to step down more. Therefore, longer whips are used in dressage than in show jumping. The total length of the dressage whip is strongly dependent on the length of the horse. But in general dressage whips are a maximum of 1.40m long with a lash at the end.

What is the maximum length of a jumping whip?

In show jumping, the jumping whips are shorter than in dressage. The reason for this is to encourage the horse to jump before the obstacle. To do this, the horse is tapped briefly on the shoulder. A long, elastic whip would be a hindrance in the course. Jumping whips are a maximum of 0.75m long and very sturdy. They usually also have a leather flap. In our online shop you can choose from jumping whips with different colours and handles. From our best-selling jumping whip with gel grip to jumping whip with rhinestones, you will definitely find what you are looking for at Kramer Equestrian.

Which lunge whip is easy to use?

A lunge whip is an important aid in ground work and lungeing. It drives the horse from behind to the front and encourages it to be more active on the hindquarters. In order to be able to touch the horse, the whip including the lash should reach a length of 4-5metres.
Due to the length and the forces caused by the swing of the whip, the whip must be balanced in the hand. Neither the tip nor the handle must be too heavy. For a comfortable feeling in the hand, we have lunge whips and touchier whips with gel grips, coated and rubberised grips to choose from in our online shop.
The whip pole needs a length between 180 and 250cm, the lash is similar in length. Telescopic whips are recommended for easier handling, as some of them are infinitely adjustable and can be adapted to personal needs.
If the lash breaks or snaps, that's no problem at all. You can buy leather or silicone lashes in our shop under whip accessories.

Which lunge whip is particularly light?

Lunge whips are available in different designs and material compositions, which determine the weight. Whips made of carbon are extremely stable and flexible, but they also weigh more than other whips. This can be exhausting and tire the forearm in the long run.
Whips made of fibreglass, on the other hand, are extremely light and therefore much easier to handle. But caution is advised with them. If the horse steps on them, fibreglass whips can break quickly and splinter dangerously. So don't leave your fibreglass whip lying around carelessly. In our range you will find both carbon and ultra-light fibreglass whips in the variants telescopic, lunge and touchier whip.
