Why does my horse need a fly veil?

As beautiful as hacks are in summer, flies and black flies can disturb the atmosphere. The little creatures get into the horse's ears, which the horse not only acknowledges with a constant shaking of the head. It can also lead to bleeding scabs in the auricles. Since fly repellents for the head area are only suitable to a limited extent, fly veils can shield the horse's ears from the pests. They also look sporty and elegant whilst tastefully rounding off the horse's outfit.
The bib of the fly veil is usually crocheted and framed with a trendy decorative cord. The ear pieces are made of an elastic material so that it fits perfectly. It also allows good air circulation and does not restrict the horse's hearing.
In our online shop you can find a wide selection of fly veils, which differ not only in their appearance. When buying a fly veil, you should also consider the shape, as not every horse accepts every design. The only thing that helps here is to try it out. However, it is good that you can buy all our fly veil designs in different colours, so that there is certainly something for every taste.
If you want to offer your horse all-round protection, fly masks are more suitable. The horse can also wear these during turnout with a simple headcollar without a browband, while fly veils hold better under a bridle. In addition, you can protect your horse with a fly rug and spray it with fly repellent to ensure maximum safety from flies, horseflies and mosquitoes.

Which fly veils have noise protection?

If you have a young or very spooky horse, a fly veil with noise protection is recommended. Here, the ear parts are not made of thin polyester material, but often consist of three layers: the inner and outer part is lined with cotton, the middle layer is made of neoprene, for example, which has a sound-absorbing effect. The noise is not completely shielded from the horse, the noise is only reduced and thus helps the horse to concentrate more. Air circulation is also guaranteed in fly veils with neoprene ears.

Which fly veil is suitable for a competition?

Fly veils can visually complete the horse's competition outfit. Nevertheless, you should know the regulations for your test, because not all fly veils are approved for competitions. When buying a fly veil that is suitable for the show, you should make sure that it ends above the eye line. It must neither extend over the eye line nor cover the bridge of the nose.
In our online shop you will find various styles of fly veils in different lengths. With our fly veils from Felix Bühler and SHOWMASTER, you have a wide choice of colours in addition to the shape and length of the fly veil, so that you can create a well-rounded horse outfit with a saddle pad and boots or bandages.

Which fly veil is suitable for horses with a thick forelock?

For horses with a thick forelock, fly veils with a forelock cutout are suitable. Due to the different anatomies of the horses, fly veils with a forelock cutout are not freely available for purchase. Many horse owners who have native breeds with a lot of mane and forelock, crochet fly veils according to their personal needs. You can also braid your horse's mane so that the hair fits under the fly veil.
Alternatively, you can fall back on fly masks with a forelock cutout, which you can find in our online shop. Here we can recommend the fly masks from FENGUR, which are designed for the fullness of the mane hair of Icelandic horses. Bear in mind, however, that these are only suitable for riding to a limited extent, as the bridle does not fit the horse's head correctly and the position of the bit can also shift.
